February High Roller 2013 Cancelled

From Brad Edelman, President of High Roller, Inc. – For the first time in our 32 years, there will not be a February or July High Roller in 2013.

It’s really very simple, its like High Roller operates 8 stores but we are closing 2 of them for renovations.

Given the current economic condition of the world, the influx of bowling events into Las Vegas and many other factors that we all can name, we have decided that 2 of our 8 events will take a hiatus through the 2013 bowling tournament season.

But we won’t be just sitting around. We will be re-evaluating our format, schedule, entry fees & eligibility all with the goal of bringing back High Roller with a fresh, new and exciting look!

We will continue to run all of our other events:  two True Amateur Tournaments (TAT), two Senior Classics, the August Military Team Tournament and the Military Bowling Championships. So we will still get to see many of our friends and supporters during the year!

In EVERY SINGLE FEBRUARY AND JULY HIGH ROLLER, we have always paid out more than we took in! We have been doing this in Las Vegas since 1982.  Although we have never minded that, we don’t want to promote events nationally that provide small purses – which has been the trend in High Roller and most other competing events.

For 31 years, High Roller has led the world in bowling events and we won’t let you down!

NEWS FROM HIGH ROLLER WORLD!

Always start your trip to Vegas by visiting www.high-roller.com

Greetings from Las Vegas!

February 17, 2011

Seniors, seniors, seniors!  There is no stopping them, the older they get, it seems the better they get!

Ed Roberts, the 67 year-old from Braintree, Mass, picked up his 2nd High Roller title becoming only the 3rd player to have won both the February and July High Roller.  Roberts won previously in July, 2008. He represented the age 60 & Over division in the Championship Round and, although relieved and happy, didn’t think he would win as he took a seat after completing his 10th frame.

Pictured from the left is runner-up Greg Shields, 4th place Dennis Beagle, 3rd place Vernon Peterson, Champ Ed Roberts, Storm's Hank Boomershine and Sam's Town's Whit Jones. Roberts was presented with the winner's cup and $25,000 check moments after the completion of the 2011 February High Roller. It was the 112th High Roller event for the 67 year-old who bowled in the very first High Roller back in 1982!

Roberts finished first in the 10th frame, spare/strike for 208 but there were still 2 players who could pass him. Vernon Peterson, the last undefeated player in the Age 45 & Under division was no stranger to Championship Rounds, but had started his 1-gamer with 2 opens and had to play catch-up.  As he looked up in the 10th, he was just a double away from overtaking Roberts.

Also in the hunt was High Roller veteran Greg Shields, the 54 year-old from Independence, MO, and although in his first finals, is always feared on the lanes. Roberts thought he might sidestep one of those 2 players but didn’t dream that neither one would pass him, Roberts topping the Championship Round 208-203-200-171.

For Roberts, the $25,000 prize and his 2nd title.  Although scheduled for knee surgery in the coming weeks, Roberts vowed to be back for the Senior Easter Classic, bad news for the rest of the field!

Shields ended up 2nd for $12,500, just another senior taking home a 5-figure prize!  Peterson, the 38 year old from Lake Wales, FL earned $11,000 for his 3rd place finish. Peterson fired a 300 game earlier in the day in match play.

From the 215 Average & Under division, Dennis Beagle, from Lehigh Acres, FL took home $10,000 in his best High Roller performance. Earlier he had fired the only 700 series in his division and now becomes the newest member of High Roller’s $10,000 Club!

TOURNAMENT NOTES:

  • In the “Luck of the Draw” Department, when Chris Hester and Vinnie Atria checked in together for the early morning VIP, Atria told Hester to draw a lane for him. Hester drew lane #1A and everyone around the check-in desk roared as Atria put his hands around Hester’s neck.  Needless to say, Atria fired 258 on the pair he didn’t want to win the 1-game VIP and $1,000!
  • Traveling can be tough and when Jon Rakoski arrived in Vegas from Florida he got violently ill.  He spent the night in his hotel room but in the morning, traveling buddy Steve Calyore literally dragged him down for the early morning VIP squad. All Rakoski did was fire 255 to win the $1,000 and 2 hours later lead the 45 & Under division in qualifying and another $1,000 in the Money Round!
  • In the scoring department, despite the lower than usual scoring this week, former High  Roller champ Vernon Peterson fired 800 even for 3 consecutive match play games during the finals: 237-263-300!
  • Local Las Vegas high school up-and-comer Chase Nadeau padded his scholarship fund this week, adding $1,500 from High Roller competition to his USBC Smart Fund.  His plans are undoubtedly to follow in his dad’s High Roller footsteps. Dan won the 1991 July High Roller with a $200,000 top prize and is still competing 20 years later!

Earlier in the week, Steven J. Smith picked up High Roller title #2 with his “A Game” victory and $10,000 prize. He bested Craig Auerbach and Darwin Wimer for the honors.

Sweeper winners were Ron Nelson, $4,000 & Scott Pohl $2,000.

Next up is the Senior Easter Classic, hosted by Sam’s Town from April 17 to 24.  There are 3 separate Classics for players aged 50 & over and 60 & over. There is also bonus qualifying for 70 & Over!

High Roller has now paid $88,578,733 in prizes to bowlers since the inaugural event in 1982!  For more info and brochures, call us toll free 1-800-257-6179 or visit us at www.high-roller.com. Enter online – it’s fast, easy & secure!

Bob Belmont’s TAT Win Proves Doctors Wrong – Again!

Brunswick's Ron Bragg, Champ Bob Belmont and TAT's Jamie McWilliamsFebruary 13th, 2011 – Another exciting week of megabuck bowling competition at The Orleans in Las Vegas has concluded! The 2011 TAT Amateur Nationals Champion is 50-year-old Bob Belmont, a Vegas local with undoubtedly the best story in TAT history!According to the opinions of 2 specialists, Belmont shouldn’t have lived longer than a year after his 1997 diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer. But all of a sudden it was January of 2003 and there he was in the Winner’s Circle of a High Roller holding the champ’s trophy and a very large prize check!

February 13th, 2011 – Another exciting week of megabuck bowling competition at The Orleans in Las Vegas has concluded!  The 2011 TAT Amateur Nationals Champion is 50-year-old Bob Belmont, a Vegas local with undoubtedly the best story in TAT history!

According to the opinions of 2 specialists, Belmont shouldn’t have lived longer than a year after his 1997 diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer.  But all of a sudden it was January of 2003 and there he was in the Winner’s Circle of a High Roller holding the champ’s trophy and a very large prize check!

One week later, he collapsed in the Showboat Pro Shop.

His friend was a physician at John Hopkins and offered to see him so he made the trip to Maryland.  It was this 3rd opinion that told him to have the operation.  They did in a South Florida hospital. Bob had brought clothes for a 2-week stay and ended up with 52 weeks of post-op care and radiation before he could come home to Las Vegas.

Flash forward to 2011 and anyone who watched the finals knows that Bob Belmont is alive and well – and now richer!

He took home $25,000 for 1st Place!  Tied for 2nd Place were Russ Davies and Brett Sheperd who each cashed for $11,250.  4th Place was Bryant Brandt for $7,500, while Steve Brown from Anchorage, Alaska finished 5th for $5,000.

This year’s 2011 TAT Amateur Nationals was just short of 3,000 entries with almost 500 bowlers from all over the globe.  The knowledgeable Brunswick staff was again on hand all week and gave out over 1,000 Brunswick bowling balls!  All TAT competitors received at least 2 Brunswick Balls just for entering the tournament with over 50% of TAT competitors taking home 3 Balls or more, including 2 High Performance Balls.  Although the entries were slightly lower than last year, the TAT still paid out all of its prize funds in full as we always do.

This year’s TAT Amateur Nationals featured 3 Free Chance Tournaments which each paid out $5,000 in Cash & Prizes and TAT competitors got up to 4 free squads just for entering along with up to 3 Brunswick Balls for free.   Each Chance tournament paid $500 for 1st and all Orleans guests received another free squad just for staying at The Orleans.  We also gave out 15 KR Strikeforce Double Tote Bags and 8 KR Strikeforce Triple Ball Rollers non-cashers by random drawings.  All together the Brunswick staff gave out over 100 KR Strikeforce bags and 44 Triple Ball Rollers.

The always-exciting Brunswick Challenge had 140 competitors, which paid 23 cash spots.  All entrants received a brand new Brunswick C System Alpha Max.  All TAT Marathon entrants were automatically in the Brunswick Finals and received the Alpha Max for free with their package.  In the end Bryson Rogers from North Carolina was the only bowler to get 3 strikes and took home the trophy and $5,000 for his efforts.  The Top 4 all received at least $1,000 in the Brunswick No tap Event.

We would like to thank all of our amazing sponsors: Brunswick, The Orleans, The High Roller, KR Strikeforce, and OnTheBallBowling.com for making the TAT Amateur bowling events possible.  Our TAT bowlers were more than pleased with the guidance and expertise that were given by the Brunswick staff and even PBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia helped out TAT bowlers on the Brunswick Practice Range!

Thanks to all of our bowlers and supporters for making this the greatest Amateur bowling tournament in the world!  For results on The 2011 TAT Amateur Nationals please visit our website www.tatbowl.com.  For questions about this event or our next event in July call our toll free number 1-888-828-2695 or e-mail us at tatbowl@hotmail.com.

Next up is the summer TAT June 28 to July 4th. See you there!

The High Roller Takes over the TAT!

high-roller-new image6141

The High Roller has been running bowling tournaments for 29 years in Las Vegas and has paid bowlers over $80 million dollars! Recently the TAT has merged with Brad Edelman and the High Roller. Brad has said repeatedly that there will be no changes for the upcoming events, although he has indicated there may be extra prize funds with no entry fee increase. All entry packages including the Marathon will be offered at the same price as the last TAT event. All the divisions including the 4 Scratch divisions and the new Handicap division will also remain the same. The next TAT event will be held at The Orleans on February 6th thru the 13th of February in 2011.

“We are very excited to be part of this long running event!” said Edelman. “The McWilliams family, Ed, Tricia, and Jamie have put together a great program and now after 10 years, we are happy to come on board.”

The same bowler friendly staff will be on hand to run the event with Jamie McWilliams running the event and Ed there to make sure everyone gets taken care of in the traditional TAT manner. The squad and bracket table staff will also remain the same as well as our friendly tournament director.

Keep an eye on trueamateurtournaments.com and www.high-roller.com for more details and to check out the new brochure which should be available in about 2 weeks. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail us at tatbowl@hotmail.com or call us toll free at 1-888-828-2695. Hope to see you in Las Vegas in February where you can bowl two great tournaments in the same week with over $600,000 in cash & prizes.
